Darrel is active in local civic groups such as the Chamber of Commerce and in public service as a Planning and Zoning Commissioner for Genesee, Idaho.  He and his wife raise Arabian and Arabian-Friesian cross horses and enjoy riding and as was the case in his growing-up years, hauling hay and cleaning stalls.  The Aherins enjoy camping in various spots in North/Central Idaho and Wallowa County, Oregon, in the summer and have travelled throughout the U.S. attending American Association for Justice conventions & meetings.
