NAMED
2005 TRIAL LAWYER
OF
THE YEAR

Darrel W. Aherin of Lewiston was named 2005 Trial Lawyer of the Year
at the 33rd annual meeting, convention and seminar of the Idaho
Trial Lawyers Association and presented the James J. May Award.
The award, named after ITLA's founding member and first president,
retired Fifth District Judge James J. May, is presented to an
outstanding trial lawyer who not only exemplifies excellence in the
practice of law, but is active in his or her community and dedicated
to the preservation of the civil justice system.
Darrel W. Aherin is founding partner of the Lewiston law firm of
Aherin, Rice & Anegon where his practice emphasizes personal injury
law. In 1997 Mr. Aherin was appointed by the Idaho State Bar
Association to the ldaho Judicial Council and served through 2003.
He is a Past President of the Idaho Trial Lawyers Association and
remains active in the organization, currently serving on the Board
of Governors of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America (ATLA),
and is active in other local, state and national professional
associations. Mr. Aherin is a frequent guest lecturer at Lewis Clark
State College and the University of ldaho.
In 2002 Mr. Aherin was recognized by ATLA with the Diplomate of
Trial Advocacy Award. It is the highest honor given by ATLA's
National College of Advocacy to members who have accumulated 400
hours of NCA credits and successfully completed the Ultimate Trial
Advocacy Course. He is also a 2003 recipient of the national
association's Weidemann & Wysocki Award for commitment to the
highest standards and duties of a trial lawyer.
Darrel is active in the Lewiston business community and is a member
of the City of Lewiston Chamber of Commerce, having served on its
Board of Directors as well as their Legislative Committee. He also
participated in the formation of the LCSC Alumni Association and was
instrumental in bringing the NAlA College World Series Baseball
Tournament to Lewiston. He is a resident of Genesee where he serves
on the Genesee Planning and Zoning Committee. He is married and has
three children and two grandchildren.
